Hiking Diary: Likeke Falls, Oahu Hawaii

I was searching for things to do that will keep me in touch with nature, something easy, not long or strenous that would take up so much of my energy. I found this hike on Yelp and most revieweres has said, "it only takes 20 minutes" that was the magic word. "20 minutes" completely had my buy in.
I went with a long time friend and cousins and I must say that a journey is so much fun with great company.

There are two ways to get to this hike. Start from Koolau golf course and yes it will take at least 20 minutes. Or, you can start at the Old Pali road (Pali lookout) but will take you longer. (4.5 miles). (more details at the end of this post)

It was very muddy since it rained the night before but it didn't stop us from having a great time getting all dirty and slipping through muddy trail. We got lost twice because the cleanest trail was all covered with leaves and branches which was easy to miss the turn! Plus there were no signs! The second time we got lost we ended up hiking up towards the mountain. There are three directions  from forward, left and right. We thought right turn would be more accurate because well, "right is always correct" but not exactly in this case.  We were climbing up grabbing on twigs and skinny branches to hang on to get us to the top only to end up in Pali road somewhere close to the tunnel. haha. lol we were completely lost.  My friend Joy slipped down and dragged me down screaming are butt off while slipping through mud, but we manage to hang on. Seriously, it was the scariest thing.

Finally, we went back to the old trail and meet other hikers along the way.  Luckily, they know what they were doing and gave us the right direction. Whew! If it wasn't for them, we would end up in the Old Pali Road. So a 20 minute hike took us at least two hours. hahaha but it was all worth it at the end. Seeing Likeke Falls was a great reward after all the struggle getting there. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The water was so cold but felt so clean and fresh. Seriously it's a must to dip in the water. Unlike any other waterfall I have seen in my life, I felt that this one was the safiest to get in because it doesn't require swimming! :)

Instructions on how to get there:
1. Start at Koolau Golf Course and park there
2. Facing Koolau Country Club, you will see a road on the left that goes up towards the forrest. This is the beginning of the trail.
3. Up ahead, You will see a large water tank with graffiti. There is a trail on the left just before you end at the water tank. (Do not make a left at the water tank).
4. Keep moving forward following the trail
5. Once you see pave trail with stones, there is another trail to the right. If its dry, there is an orange arrow sign. Make this right
(at this point, if you never made a right and kept on going straight pass 20 minutes, you are going the the wrong way. This trail will continue to the Old Pali Road).
6. After making the right turn, 5 more minutes and you will end up in Likeke Falls

I hope you enjoy when you visit this place. Thanks for reading!
